CBS Scoop: Terri Schiavo is dead. Uh… wait - not yet.

Geniuses that they are over there at CBS, they posted an obituary for Terri Schiavo already! Whoops! They yanked it - but not before I got my hands on it…

Alright, we already know that a bunch of geniuses work at CBS, right? And we already know that they triple and quadruple check their stories before running with them, right? And of course, we can’t forget that when they make a mistake, they acknowledge it, correct it, and apologize, if appropriate. Right?!

Well, dang if CBS hasn’t scooped everyone again! On their news website, they posted the announcement of Terri Schiavo’s death and quite a lengthy obituary. Believe it or not - they were first to market with the news! What - you hadn’t heard yet? Well, CBS did and jumped the gun only a teensy bit, in order to lock in the scoop. There’s only one problem: Terri hasn’t died!

Those journalistic wonders over there, deemed it prudent to pull the obit until AFTER Terri dies - after all, they don’t want to appear ghoulishly eager about this. But hey, they still get credit for the scoop!

Psssst…CBS dudes, whatever you do, don’t submit a retraction or correction. And no matter what, definitely don’t apologize to her family for the premature obituary. In fact, pretend like it never happened - and no one will notice. After all, you have a sterling reputation for journalistic integrity to uphold!
